Trauma Counselling - SafeHaven
This is a talking therapy focused on helping people use their current knowledge, information and coping skills in better ways. It supports you where you are, rather than focusing on change.
What happens in a session?
It is a supportive therapy that encourages you to re-engage coping strategies and skills you may have ceased using, as well as understand more about how current circumstances are affecting you. At the end of therapy ideally you know yourself better and have more knowledge on what coping strategies you have available to help you through challenging circumstances.
Counselling is a therapy that helps you activate the resources you already have but were perhaps not utilising.
Counselling is generally short term, usually requiring 6-12 weekly sessions.
Sessions usually last for around 60 minutes.
Counselling can take place:
- face to face
- individually or in a group
- online/ over the phone
- by email
Is counselling right for you?
Counselling is generally used to support people who are emotionally healthy, but are experiencing temporary difficulties.
It can be used to treat a wide range of mental health conditions. From addiction, bereavement, bullying or illness to relationship difficulties and trauma.You can expect to have a greater understanding of the problems you face and strengthened coping skills.
A willingness to discuss your problems openly and take responsibility for your own change for are key to it being successful for you.
