What happens when I come for therapy?
We provide an introductory telephone consultation, and then depending on the service you require we provide a structured care-plan including an initial consultation and evaluation, treatment plan and aftercare where appropriate. Where are you located?
The treatment Centre is in Wilmslow Cheshire. (Full address here)
We also run two treatment retreats:
- Dolphin Assisted Therapy is located on Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas
- Equine Assisted Therapy is in the Lake District.
Do you have disabled access?
Yes we have full disabled access. Further details on our facilities can be found here.
Do you have a waiting room?
Yes we have a waiting room with complimentary refreshments. Further details on our facilities can be found here.
Do you do home/hospital visits?
Yes we do by prior arrangement and these are subject to an additional call out charge. Please speak to us if this may be required.
If I cannot get to the Centre can my appointment be done by telephone or video instead?
Possibly. Some types of treatment are not suitable for this approach. However, online counseling or psychotherapy can accommodate working in this way. Please let us know as soon as possible and we will endeavor to provide appropriate support.
Are telephone or video sessions inferior to face-to-face counseling?
No they are not inferior, but they are different. Face-to-face therapy ensures we take responsibility for you having a confidential, safe space for your treatment. With telephone or video based support that responsibility lies with you. However, many people who are unable to come to the Centre find this way of working a convenient and effective alternative.
Telephone based support is something we use regularly and it forms a core part of our online trauma recovery course: Power to Recover.
How long do sessions last and how often will they be?
During your initial consultation and evaluation we will discuss both the session length and the frequency, as these will be influenced by your needs, the type of therapy decided upon and the condition/symptoms being addressed. All of these are at the core of the care-plan, which your therapist will design for you.
Session length can range from 30 minutes through to 2 hours.
Frequency can range from intensive daily treatment, to weekly or fortnightly appointments. What is generally important in treatment is a degree of regularity and continuity.
Can I contact my therapist outside of my scheduled appointment?
To contact your therapist please call us on 0161 635 3522 and we will pass on the message to your therapist.
For people on the Power to Recover online course you have a message service within the online app to enable you to message your coach direct.
Can I connect with my therapist through social media?
You can follow SafeHaven on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. However, it can be potentially harmful and can raise ethical issues for individual therapists to connect with their clients socially. Where therapist’s have an open twitter account please feel free to follow them. Where they have a LinkedIn profile your therapist will confirm if they accept connections from clients. However we ask all our therapists not to interact via private social media accounts such as Facebook, so please do not be offended that they decline such a request.
Is my treatment confidential?
We provide the highest level of confidentiality for our clients. Information on our confidentiality policy can be found here. This will also be explained in detail at your first session.
Who do I contact in an emergency?
If you are having suicidal thoughts that you may act on please call 999 or go to A&E.
If it’s regarding an appointment and you need to contact us urgently please contact our reception on 0161 635 3522. Reception is answered directly between 8:30am and 6pm Monday to Friday, however it is monitored 24/7.
I need help right now, what should I do?
We do not provide an emergency drop-in service at the Centre.
If you need immediate assistance please do not keep it to yourself – reach out, there is help available.
